WearEver #9664000 Jelly Strainer by Jelly Strainers
Price: $10.00 Updated on 12-23-2008.

So you want to make some jelly? You'll need to have some sort of mechanism for straining out skins, seeds and other solids from the fruit. This metal frame holds a nylon filter bag and does the job of straining admirably well. It also comes in handy for use with soups, stocks, and more.
Reader Reviews I have to say that I was so excited when I bought this strainer. It looked so simple, and so functional, and best of all, so affordable! Then I attempted using it... The bag falls off the frame if you fill the bag more than about a third full, no matter how tightly you tie the strings. The reason for this is that it can't slip under the metal loop completely to grasp better because the legs of the thing come directly out of the hoop, and for intensive purposes, from the edge. There is nothing for the bag to grasp. I do larger batches of jellies, and having to slow down production this much is unacceptable. The upshot is that the bags work. If you've already bought this, and have access to some gallon-sized glass jars (ours were originally pickle jars), you can use those and put the bag in them. It works PERFECTLY. Almost as if that was the original idea...
